Two Years of SPARCCLE: Highlights from the Annual General Assembly

This year’s Assembly featured a rich and dynamic agenda, opening with welcoming remarks from Ed Byers (IIASA), Project Coordinator, and Johannes Emmerling of the CMCC Foundation. This was followed by plenary sessions that included updates across all work streams. Partners shared insights from their respective areas and reflected on current work as well as priorities for the year ahead.
The meeting also included breakout sessions, allowing for in-depth discussions and decisions on the implementation of stress test scenarios. Participants also planned for upcoming interactive tools, the SPARCCLE Explorer and EU Scoreboard, which will serve as central platforms for sharing results with a wide audience. Discussions further addressed plans for stakeholder engagement and outreach activities.
In addition to internal sessions, the representatives from the sister projects – Enrica De’Cian (CMCC) from ACCREU and Sorin Cheval (MeteoRomania) from CROSSEU – as well as Leonardo Bertassello from the JRC, presented their latest work and shared experiences. These presentations sparked discussions on opportunities for future collaboration across projects. Participants also benefited from the insights of SPARCCLE’s Advisory Board Members, Hans-Martin Füssel (EEA) and Philip Ward (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam), who provided an external perspective on ongoing activities. Hans-Martin Füssel also presented plans for a second European Climate Risk Assessment (EUCRA-2), while Philip Ward highlighted recent developments from the MYRIAD-EU project.
The programme was complemented by social activities, including a picturesque Navigli tour and a group dinner, providing opportunities for informal networking.
